Using the curriculum

The Curriculum view can be located by clicking Curriculum in the top navigation bar.

The Everyday Speech curriculum is segmented into the following categories:

  1. Mindfulness Materials
  2. Intervention Materials (Tiers 2 + 3)
  3. Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1)

Our Mindfulness Materials and Intervention materials are further segmented by age group: Pre K/K, Elementary, and Middle/High School. Our Whole Class Lessons are segmented by grade level: Pre K through 12.

Navigating the curriculum

  • Click the Expand arrow next to the category to open up the expanded view.
  • Click the Collapse arrow next to the category to close the category view
  • Click the Hide sidebar (X) button beside Curriculum to hide the curriculum sidebar
  • Click the Menu button (three horizontal lines) in the view header to view the curriculum sidebar

Mindfulness Materials

The Mindfulness Materials are videos, activities, and games that promote mindfulness using grade-level appropriate concepts. They are a great way to start or end a lesson, or to promote calm in your classroom.

Each grade bracket has 5 categories. Click into each category to explore the many materials available!

Intervention Materials (Tiers 2 + 3)

Click Intervention Materials (Tiers 2 + 3) to open the skill options. Directly under Intervention Materials (Tiers 2 + 3), there is a dropdown for you to select the grade bracket you are working with (Pre K/K, Elementary, Middle/High School). Select the appropriate grade bracket to filter the skills listed below. All materials in the skills listed below will be appropriate for that grade bracket.

Click a skill to show the associated goals to the right of the curriculum sidebar. Click a goal to open even more segmented units, and from there, videos, activities, or games. Skills and goals are organized alphabetically, and the Intervention Materials are not intended to be completed in chronological order.

Resources available for Intervention Materials

Click any skill, and you will see the following at the top of the page:

  1. Description of the skill
  2. CASEL competencies aligned with the skill
  3. A button for you to download our scope and sequence, which is a review of our available skills and goals at a glance.

Click on any goal, and you will see the following at the top of the page:

  1. Name of the goal
  2. Learning standards
  3. Teaching tools, including visual supports, our informal data assessment sheets, and a goal bank.

Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1)

Click Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1) to open the grade level options. Directly under Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1), you will see the Whole Class lessons separated by grade. Click the grade you are working with to see the Units and Lessons for that grade level. Your progress is always saved, even when you click away from one grade to another.

The Whole Class Lessons are intended to be followed chronologically throughout the school year, and the Units align across grades to promote school- and district-wide unity and collaboration.

Resources available for Whole Class Lessons

Click on any grade, and you will see the following at the top of the page:

  1. Unit name
  2. Unit completion bar
  3. Button to download the grade's Scope and Sequence, which is a review of the grade's CASEL competencies and corresponding lessons
  4. Button to download a shareable unit summary PDF
  5. Button to download the school-wide bulletin board

 

Resetting Whole Class Lesson Progress

Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1) track which lessons you've completed for each unit. If you want to reuse or re-teach material, such as at the start of a new school year or with a new group of learners, you can reset that progress at any time.

How to reset progress

1. From the navigation bar, go to Curriculum.
2. Select the grade level you want to reset.
3. Under Whole Class Lessons (Tier 1), find the unit or lesson track you want to reset.
4. Click Reset all unit progress.

This clears the completed status for lessons in that unit so you can start the track over from the beginning.

When to use this

  • Starting a new school year with a new class.
  • Re-teaching a unit with a different group of learners.
  • Correcting progress that was marked complete by mistake.
