What is the SEL Curriculum?

Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum is perfect for implementing school- or district-wide for Preschool through grade 5 SEL programming (grades 6-12 coming in 2023!).

The SEL curriculum is designed as a fully structured week-by-week curriculum for general education teachers or interventionists to use in whole-class or small group settings. We truly provide SEL for all by offering materials for Tier 1, 2, and 3 support students.

Our 40-week curriculum follows the CASEL competencies focusing on skills related to self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Everything is done for you – just follow our roadmap and use the provided videos, games, and activities to teach social-emotional skills to your students. We offer teacher training materials to set you up for success. We also offer materials to promote community engagement, such as school-wide bulletin boards.

Our SEL curriculum helps you feel confident teaching social-emotional skills to your class, no matter how much or how little SEL training you’ve had.

How do I know if the SEL curriculum is right for my students?

Everyday Speech believes that all students can benefit from SEL instruction. Our Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum is designed for Preschool through grade 5 students of all skill levels, including Tier 1, 2, and 3 support students (grades 6-12 will be available in 2023!).

My school already has a Social-Emotional Learning curriculum, how does this fit in?

The Everyday Speech SEL curriculum is a great addition to any current curriculum because it comes with so many materials and covers such a wide range of skills and goals. Use the video lessons, games, or printables as supplemental materials - we’re confident these will enhance or fit in all with the target learning areas of existing curricula.

It is also a good idea to ask yourself if the Social-Emotional Learning curriculum at your school is working for you. If not, look at what isn’t working for your school or district. Is your current curriculum outdated, and your learners don’t relate to it? Is it not engaging your students? Do teachers dread using it because it is prep-heavy?

If these are your biggest concerns, you’re in luck! Everyday Speech has solved all of those problems for you. We add new materials every month, our materials are fresh and relatable, and we have designed our curriculum to be no-prep for ease of use.

How can I convince my staff that SEL is worth our time?

Classrooms with higher social and emotional skills behave better, perform higher, and have healthier interpersonal relationships. Everyday Speech makes SEL easy with a comprehensive curriculum, interactive in-class lessons, and ongoing educator support—we’ve done it all for you!

Our SEL program boasts a no-prep roadmap for teachers and interventionists to follow each week. One of the most important factors in social-emotional development is a student’s relationship with their teacher. This curriculum requires no preparation, yet keeps the teacher central to the lesson to foster teacher-student ties. Our 40-week curriculum is meant to be followed sequentially with the goal of empowering your staff with the structure, tools, and flexibility to teach strategies and skills that nurture healthy individuals.

Do you have any resources to advocate for SEL implementation?

Yes, we do! Because we have truly done it all for you, we have created a slide deck that you can use at staff meetings to convince anyone and everyone that SEL is worth it!

You can access the slide deck here.

How can SEL benefit my district as a whole?

SEL is a lifelong journey, yet the impacts felt in your district can be immediate. For instance, improving students’ social awareness can reduce classroom disruptions and lead to stronger personal relationships in life. Built by experts in the SEL industry, our curriculum aligns with the CASEL (Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning) framework to shape a student's sense of self from an early age and promote the growth of a more unified school community.
